Effects of UV irradiation treated polycarbonate substrates on properties of nanocrystalline TiO2 sol-gel derived thin films

In this study, in order to achieve effective coating of the homogeneous titanium dioxide (TiO2) thin film, UV irradiation pre-treatment was carried out to activate PC surfaces before coating. Sol-gel-based nanocrystalline TiO2 thin films were prepared by employing tetrabutyl-titanate as a precursor. Nanocrystalline TiO2 thin films were deposited by sol-gel spin coating on the treated substrates...

Electron Injection Dynamics from Photoexcited Porphyrin Dyes into SnO2 and TiO2 Nanoparticles

The photoexcited electron injection dynamics of free-base and metallo-derivatives of tris(pentafluorophenyl)porphyrins bound to TiO2 and SnO2 nanoparticle surfaces have been investigated using timeresolved terahertz spectroscopy (TRTS). The metallo-derivatives include Zn(II), Cu(II), Ni(II), and Pd(II). For the TiO2−porphyrin assemblies, electron injection from the photoexcited dye to the semic...

Tetrachelate porphyrin chromophores for metal oxide semiconductor sensitization: effect of the spacer length and anchoring group position.

Four Zn(II)-tetra(carboxyphenyl)porphyrins in solution and bound to metal oxide (TiO2, ZnO, and ZrO2) nanoparticle films were studied to determine the effect of the spacer length and anchoring group position (para or meta) on their binding geometry and photoelectrochemical and photophysical properties. The properties of three types of anchoring groups (COOH and COONHEt3) for four Zn(II)-porphyr...

Zinc Porphyrins Possessing Three p-Carboxyphenyl Groups: Effect of the Donor Strength of Push-Groups on the Efficiency of Dye Sensitized Solar Cells

Zinc porphyrins decorated with three p-carboxyphenyl anchoring groups and various “push” substituents of varied electron-donating strengths were prepared in good yields by facile and straightforward ways. The effect of electron-donating strength of the donor molecules on the overall power conversion efficiency was evaluated with the help of photophysical, electrochemical, photovoltaic spectrosc...

High-Potential Porphyrins Supported on SnO2 and TiO2 Surfaces for Photoelectrochemical Applications

We report CF3-substituted porphyrins and evaluate their use as photosensitizers in water-splitting dyesensitized photoelectrochemical cells (WS-DSPECs) by characterizing interfacial electron transfer on metal oxide surfaces. By using (CF3)2C6H3 instead of C6F5 substituents at the meso positions, we obtain the desired high potentials while avoiding the sensitivity of C6F5 substituents to nucleop...
